Our mission

We're built on the fundamental belief that martial arts has the power to bring communities together and transform lives.

Boosting Grassroots Participation

We want to see more people of all genders, races, religion and socioeconomic status getting into – and staying in – martial arts. We believe this should be within grassroots, community driven clubs that are professionally setup, run with accountability and who safeguard children and adults at risk effectively. 

Setting & Regulating Standards

In UK Martial Arts there’s still no regulator meaning anybody can claim to be a black belt and start teaching. We’re working hard to change that, with enhanced vetting and the most sophisticated compliance infrastructure for martial arts in the world. 

Helping Good Clubs Scale

We want to see good, professional, ethical independent clubs triumph and we’ll do everything in our power to support that happening. From resources, tools and guidance through to cutting edge software and services – we’re in club’s corners.

Championing Safeguarding

We’ve been leading the charge on better safeguarding in martial arts since 2015 and we stand today far ahead of the pack in terms of innovation, compliance and drive to make every club the very safest place it can be for our children and young people.

Impact

Being one of the largest associations for martial arts in the UK means nothing if we’re not making a real, effective impact at club level. We’re focused on being present in every corner of UK martial arts where it matters most; on the mats.

Dictatorships never prosper for long. We believe the day of the ‘old boys’ are gone and it’s about time clubs felt empowered to be free and independent whilst remaining professional and driven.

BMABA holds itself and our members to the highest standards and expectations, instilling in the core of our work that which we hold dear in the dojo – discipline, respect and integrity.

We should never have been the success story we are. We’re underdogs, and we’ve seen first hand how ambition and drive to change makes all the difference. We’ll remain ambitious about the future of BMABA and our clubs.

The Big Idea

Imagine building a self-sustaining model in which clubs pay membership fees to BMABA that represent amazing value for money and a feature-packed set of tools to help them grow.
