Yes, absolutely – and please do make time to do this before committing. We run all of our cover via our association’s national group cover policy so it’s important to us that you know what is and isn’t covered, as well as what terms the insurer sets.

It can vary depending on how busy we are, so typically we ask that you allow up to 10 working days from providing proof of grade however we can do it rapidly – even same day where genuinely urgent. If that’s the case, please do let us know by jumping onto web chat.

BMABA represents some of the UK’s most passionate and professional instructors. As such, we insist that all instructors joining hold a minimum 1st Dan Black Belt or equivalent (if practicing an ungraded style). We also have some other minimum standards, ethics and disclosure requirements to help us safeguard effectively and protect the BMABA name for our other brilliant clubs and instructors.

Yes, you will. We request this from every instructor or club joining us to ensure we uphold the highest standards, and only support genuinely qualified instructors. You can upload grading certificates, licence book entries or other criteria. If you practice an ungraded discipline or style, you can also supply black belt equivalency evidence such as video submissions, testimonials and references. We’ll happily work with you to evidence your professional capability or grade but this will be needed before we can accept an application.

Right up to the point of your membership being issued you’re free to request a cancellation and refund – we’ll refund 100% of fees paid. The moment your membership is issued, because that grants you access to documentation, downloads and exclusive content, the membership is non-refundable.

That’s okay, you can still join. Our insurers allow a 28 day grade period if you’re joining with insurance for you to get everything required in place. Whilst we need you to have an enhanced DBS / PVG check and safeguarding qualification (if working with children) along with insurance and first aid, we understand you may well be joining BMABA for many of these things so for now we’re only concerned with confirming your technical proficiency – your grade. We’ll help with the professional minimum standards once your membership is active.
