Instructor insurance
Public liability, professional indemnity, abuse extension and products liability, underwritten by AXA. Every instructor on this application is covered.

What the policy actually covers

  • £5 million public liability for injury or damage caused to other people or their property, upgradeable to £10 million where a venue asks for it
  • £1 million professional indemnity for claims about the instruction or advice you have given
  • £500,000 abuse extension, which most venues and local authorities now expect to see
  • £1 million products liability covering equipment and merchandise you supply

Underwritten by AXA. Named cover follows the person, so it travels with them to any venue they teach at.

Two ways to buy cover. Named follows the person, open allocation follows the club. What is the difference?, opens in a new tab
Most common

Named instructor insurance

Cover attached to a specific person by name. It travels with them to any venue they teach at, and their name appears on the certificate, which is what most halls and local authorities want to see.

  • Applied to every instructor on this application
  • The instructor is named on the policy documentation
  • Can be upgraded individually with the options below
Per instructor, based on your headcount
£0.001 £0.002-5 £0.006-10 £0.0011+
Covering 0 instructor(s) £0.00
Flexible

Open allocation insurance

Unnamed slots held by the club and assigned to whoever is teaching. Useful when your coaching team changes through the year, or when you want cover ready before you know who will fill it.

  • Assign and reassign slots yourself at any time
  • No names needed at the point of purchase
  • Volume discounts apply on the number of slots held
Per slot, based on how many you hold
£0.001 £0.002-5 £0.006-10 £0.0011+

Optional upgrades, applied to every named instructor

These attach to named cover, so switch named instructor insurance on to use them.

Personal accident cover
Pays out if the instructor is injured themselves. Public liability protects other people, not you.
Pass-through pricing. Every penny of premium goes to our underwriters. We add a small administration charge to cover policy governance and oversight, and nothing more. We regularly pass these on at a loss to keep them affordable.
Student licences Recommended
Licence your students and club business cover becomes free. Student licences also unlock the register, grading records and the club platform for everyone you teach.

What student licensing gives you

Licensing your students is what turns the club platform on properly. It also unlocks club business cover at no charge, which on its own is worth more than most clubs spend on licences.

  • Every student gets a licence record, grading history and attendance tracking in the BMABA CRM
  • Students and parents can verify the club and its instructors on our public registers
  • Optional personal accident cover applied across the whole roster in one go
  • Club business cover included free for your first year, and free at renewal if you hold RegulationReady Bronze or above
Two ways to licence students. Named records each one, open allocation holds licences you assign as they join. How does open allocation work?, opens in a new tab
Most common

Named students

Each student registered by name, with their own licence record in the BMABA CRM.

  • Grading history and attendance tracked per student
  • Students and parents can verify the licence

Student personal accident cover

This applies to named students, so add at least one to use it.

Optional cover applied to every named student on the application.
Assistants and volunteers
Register the people who help you run the club. Both appear on our public registers so parents and venues can verify them.

What an assistant instructor registration is for

For the people who help you deliver classes but are not yet qualified instructors in their own right. Registration puts them on our public Assistant Instructor Register, so parents and venues can verify them, and gives them their own MyBMABA login.

  • Access to the Assistant Instructor Training Programme (ITP), our structured route from helper to qualified coach, with mat hours, shadowing and competency sign off tracked for you
  • Foundation Coach (Level 1) and the BMABA Induction Training Award
  • Child Safeguarding in Martial Arts and First Aid for Martial Arts
  • Trauma-Informed Coaching (Level 1), SEND in Martial Arts (Level 1), CHIMA and Coaching Children and Young People
  • Cadet Coaching Award for anyone under 18, which is exclusive to assistant accounts

What a volunteer registration is for

For the people who keep the club running rather than teach in it. Club admin, reception, event support, ratio support and pad holding. Volunteers should never deliver technique or run a class.

  • A verifiable entry on our public Volunteer Register showing the checks you have declared
  • BMABA Induction Training Award and Child Safeguarding in Martial Arts
  • SEND in Martial Arts (Level 1) and CHIMA
  • Their own MyBMABA login and access to club systems you grant them

Club business cover
Cover for the club as a business rather than the individuals in it. Normally £169.99 a year, included free for your first year, and free again at renewal if you hold RegulationReady Bronze or above.

Why the club needs cover of its own

Instructor insurance covers the person teaching. It does not cover the club as an organisation, and that is the gap most people do not find out about until they need it.

  • Claims made against the club as an entity rather than against an individual coach
  • Committee, officer and organiser exposure at gradings, competitions and club events
  • Required by many local authorities, leisure centres and school halls before they will grant a booking
This can be free. Licence any number of students and club business cover is included at no charge for your first year. Keep it free at renewal by holding RegulationReady Bronze or above.

No insurance selected

You have not added any instructor insurance. You are not obliged to use BMABA insurance, but we do need you to confirm that is correct and genuinely not needed.

Important: monthly payment agreement

We are happy to support monthly payments to help spread the cost, but please understand this is not a month to month product. Your membership is an annual commitment.

  • Insurance and membership costs are realised at the point of application. We pay these upfront on your behalf.
  • Cancellation mid term is not permitted. Your membership runs for the full twelve month period.
  • If you fail to make agreed payments, the full outstanding balance becomes immediately payable.
  • Non payment may result in refusal of future monthly payment options, or membership altogether.

As a not-for-profit, self-funded organisation, clubs that fail to honour monthly commitments do not just hurt BMABA, they hurt fellow members who end up covering the shortfall. We trust you to honour this commitment.

Before you continue

These are the undertakings every BMABA member gives. Please read each one, they are not boilerplate and we do act on them.

Armed Forces Covenant, proud signatory

10% off for life, for those who serve

Emergency services, armed forces, RNLI and NHS front line staff are entitled to 10% off every BMABA membership, for life. That applies to ex-serving armed forces and former emergency workers too.

We are a proud signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, with active support for serving and veteran regular and reserve force members.

Get in touch before you pay and we will apply it to your account.

Insurance premiums go straight to AXA

Premiums are paid directly to our underwriters and do not benefit BMABA CIC. We negotiate group rates to get you cover you would not reach on your own, and we often pass it on at a loss. Authorised and regulated by the FCA as an Introducer Appointed Representative attached to FCA registration number 308626.
